Workshops for beginners/improvers WCS. 2pm till 3:45. (Doors open 1:45pm) £10, (including the Tea dance.) Bookings essential.

Tea dance. 3:45 till 6pm. £6, including tea and cakes.

What is the Meltdown Mix?

From April 2006, "Monday Meltdown" is the new name for the Monday Jango nights. Previously known as "Monday Lush." The name comes from those rare moments when you really connect with the music, and a wonderful dance partner, when everything seems so easy, you can't help sighing and going a little weak at the knees. The Melting Moments!

So the music has to not just reflect that mood, but tries to induce it, the adrenalin level may rise with a lively funky sound, then let you chill to some contemporary tango. Strutting your stuff to some latin horns, then up close & personal to a slow blues. Most of the music will be familiar to the regular Modern Jive dancer, but challenges and amusement are to be found in the less familiar.

So if there are so many familiar tracks, what is special about the Meltdown Mix?

I wouldn't claim it's special, just different from the usual Modern Jive set. It's noticeably slower, as keen dancers will want their movement to reflect the smallest nuances of the music. It may not be to everyone's taste, as the chilled atmosphere leads to more intimate dancing. One thing that you'll rarely hear is a relentlessy pounding rhythm. The spaces in between the music are important too!

Where Can I find the Meltdown Mix?

Due to renovations at Hammersmith Working Men's Club (Kent House), there will not be any Monday classes until further notice, however the monthly t-jives continue at the Putney Club (where the workshops regularly sell out). Other events are being organised for "Jango demo teams" and for advanced workshops, see www.jango.co.uk for further details.
